PROFILES

SWG1

Consists of a winding and filler material only with additional support rings.

SWG2

Consists of a winding/filler (sealing part) in combination with an inner support ring.

SWG3

Is the most popular model and consists of metal windings and filler material in combination with and an outisde centering ring which compression gauge function is also to ensure an aoptimum winding compression during assembly and compression.

SWG4

is pretty much the same as SWG3 but with an inner ring that improves performance as it prevents inner buckling of the winding material under severe loading and thermal conditions. It also increases the maximum allowable stress range to which the gasket can be applied.

SPIRAL WOUND GASKETS

Spiral wound gaskets are frequently used to fulfill the requirements of compression and elasticity necessary to ensure flanges sealing.

The spiral wound spiral wound V-shaped metal strip and a flexible material filler are used for the spiral wound seal. The assembly provides high strength as well as a high degree of leak-tightness as it is designed to achieve optimum performance even under highly fluctuating temperature and pressure conditions. Depending on the application, the profile used includes outer and/or inner rings.

Spiral wound gaskets are used over a wide range of pressures and operating conditions. According to the materials, they can be used in applications up to 250 bar and cryogenic temperatures down to -200°C and high temperatures up to +550°C / +1100°C. They usually do not damage the flange faces and are easy to assemble and disassemble. The outer rings are particularly useful to seat the spiral element in the center of the flange faces and prevent it from slipping out of its seat as well.

Inner and outer rings are particularly recommended for use on spiral wound gaskets exceeding 600lbs, and highly recommended in case of high temperatures and/or pressures in order to optimise the operational reliability of the spiral wound sealing part.

Advantages of the outer ring (centering ring)

  • Prevents radial-flow of soft fillers, such as PTFE.
  • Optimum location between the bolts.
  • Protection of the spiral wound part.
  • Additional security against gasket blow-out.
  • Acts as compression limiter preventing overloading and over-compression of the spiral wound element.

Advantages of the inner ring

  • Prevents radial-flow of soft fillers, such as PTFE.
  • Reduces turbulence-minimising flow resistance and crevice corrosion.
  • Acts as a heat shield when the spiral wound gasket is subjected to high temperatures.
  • Avoidance of over-compression at elevated seating loads in high-pressure service.
  • Improvement of the load distribution over the gasket.

APPLICATIONS

  • Flanges.
  • Tonque and groove flanges.
  • Flanges with recess and spigot (male/female).
