Do you know the origin of trade names?
The use of trade names is very common in our sector to denominate standard materials, as the chemical name of the same can be hard to memorize and quote.
Different manufacturers and / or trade names exist for the chemical names comprising the most common mixtures of the more than 20 million seals we keep in stock, reason for which the chemical name of the material is always maintained (Polytetrafluoroethylene) but rarely used when compared to the trade name (Teflon).
Other times, when the manufacturer holds an important share of the market, the chemical name is often replaced by that of the predominant brand. Hence the importance of knowing the trade names, but not forgetting the chemical names and corresponding symbol.
