To the JIOrings warehouse – We continue to expand our stock
We started the year with a stock of more than 40 million O-rings, almost 1 million quad-rings, 200,000 V-rings, 175,000 anti-extrusion rings (BUR), 125,000 bonded seals, 60,000 U-rings, 40,000 rotary shaft seals, 20,000 wiper seals, 23,000 axial seals, 2,150 spools of cord-ring … And for 2020, in accordance with the increase in numbers of orders this financial year, we will strive to increase our stock of FPM-Viton® seals and spools of cord-ring in different thicknesses and materials. Moreover, we will begin marketing special seals for the healthcare sector, which will comply with all the requirements of such a demanding sector.
We ended 2019 with an increase in the sale of silicone plugs for wine barrels and the first plugs for whisky barrels, and we intend to continue increasing the sales of both these models. We have made excellent progress with regard to the marketing of Nortap® plugs in the French market this year and we hope to close deals with new customers in countries including Italy, Austria and Hungary, while not forgetting the domestic market.
Our workforce – Consolidation and commitment
We celebrated our 15th anniversary in 2019, and although we haven´t held any special celebrations for our “Crystal Wedding”, we always meet up on the Friday of each anniversary, for the activities associated with the annual river Sella race and at the meals organized both by our personnel and the company´s annual get-together.
We have three partners and nine employees, and it´s everyone’s job to ensure we´re the fastest way of finding a seal. Jean-Albert Morlard, Iñigo Barrenetxea and Óscar Zamorano define the annual goals and run the company; César Garretas and Iñaki Bilbao are in charge of domestic and international sales respectively; Maite Jiménez is the head of the administrative department and Silbia González the head of the marketing department; and Fernando Sánchez, Juanra Laderas, Laura Domínguez, Gonzalo Pardo and Unai Pereda work hard in the warehouse from Monday to Friday to ensure all orders are delivered on time.
Our commitment is to continue working and training to go on providing a quality service that complements our quality products.
Those of you that know us are aware that our company is increasingly committed to our workers and the environment. And I say “increasingly” due to the fact that we know that part of our workers’ well-being is in our hands, and we at JIOrings do everything possible to ensure the hours spent here at work are healthy ones. As for the environment, we will continue to comply with the three Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as a means of achieving a minimal impact.
Sponsorships – values and sport
We have two new signings for the JIOrings Running Team in 2020 and we are preparing a powerful schedule for both running and cycling. It will be difficult to surpass Isaak Rosillo‘s enduro adventure in Nepal, but knowing him, he´s probably already planning his next feat. We will have to wait to find out where the traditional and floral JIOrings kits that have brought us so much success this year will be displayed. Moreover, we are extremely happy due to having resumed our collaboration with Galdakao Bolei Taldea in the 2020 season.
JIOrings – Online and offline improvements
Next year we will have our new plant and its forklift in operation. This third storage plant will enable us to continue expanding our stock of both seals and plugs. Regarding this line, we will try to go ahead with our automated warehouse project, with the aim of improving the time spent preparing the lines.
In relation to offline operations, we will continue to improve both with regard to accounting (the implementation of automated accounting banking consolidation), the environment (we will continue with the integrated recycling process), operations (improvement in the advanced technical data sheet to enable us to search for seals by colour, approvals, characteristics, etc. .), and quality (continue to approve our own mixtures) …
And if that wasn´t enough, in relation to online operations we hope to publish the new JIOrings website in January, featuring an updated design, far more intuition and, above all, fast. Although I don´t think that´s the only surprise, because we will be working on our online store in 2020, with the same objective, improving the browsing and usability of the store, creating a simple purchasing process, displaying the most popular products in order to facilitate shopping, improving product photos in detail …
Another year of improvements awaits us!
Water is a limited asset, one of the most important resources we have and which we need to manage and take care of accordingly.
We use large amounts of water for domestic purposes every day – for drinking, showering, flushing, cooking, mopping…. Indeed, according to the INE (National Institute of Statistics), the consumption of water in Spanish homes is 132 litres per person per day.
Moreover, water is also vital for industry (as an ingredient for the product to be manufactured and as part of the production process) and for agriculture (irrigation) too.
Whatever the use, we at JIOrings help companies (desalination plants, water suppliers, drinking water treatment plants, irrigation firms…) to achieve optimum watertightness in water piping to ensure there are no leaks. The watertight properties of our O-Rings designed for water piping valves and accessories ensure that not a single drop is wasted.
To this end, we analyse each company´s needs and supply the ideal O-Ring for each use. The size, cross-section, hardness and material of the product, in addition to the required approvals, will vary in accordance with the needs of each individual customer. All our years of experience enable us to meet the needs of water suppliers through the annual programming of their most common measurements. Furthermore, to manufacture and supply special sized seals.
We also market the star mix for the sector related to the supply and treatment of water: LPM534 EDPM FDA for DRINKING WATER.
O-Rings installed in valves, pumps, piping and similar applications should be resistant to the fluid itself without the need to add any ingredient or alter the essential characteristics of the product being conveyed, such as the colour, smell or flavour.
This mix, approved by the German Environmental Agency (Umwelt Bundesamt, UBA), complies with all the hygiene and toxicology requirements established by this agency and those of European Regulation CE/1935/2004.
We at JIOrings adapt to each of our customer´s requirements and the standard in relation to O-Rings in each country. We always attach the corresponding certificate attesting to our compliance, thereby guaranteeing the suitability of our O-Rings for each specific purpose.
What about you, what seals do you need?
Check and buy your washers in real time
Until now, washers were only available on request but, for a little while, you can find them out on our online store. Thus, you are now allowed to purchase them directly from the store.
We would like to recall that JIOrings offers a washers output service WITHOUT any tooling cost or minimum order quantity.
Square or rectangular-section washers provide a greater sealing surface than O-Rings and can bear higher pressures and loads. Plus, they have narrow tolerances and a smooth surface and edges finishing.
Do no wait, check our real-time stock of washers on our online store.

You won’t find more materials available anywhere else!
Whereas in the previous post we talked about the importance (or not) of size, this time we are going to talk about the relevance of a specific size. If you are asking yourself why, then just keep reading.
The JIOrings warehouses hold a stock of more than 30 million O-rings of different inside diameters, cross-sections, hardness, materials, approvals, colours… And only the client knows the real working conditions to which the seals will be subjected and the properties that need to be complied with.
Without wishing to be exhaustive, we would like to emphasise the importance of choosing the right o-ring. The use of seals is universal and you will see them in both static and dynamic applications, on the interior and exterior of machinery parts and in a wide range of sectors. Of course, the same seals are not used in the healthcare sector, where O-rings need to be resistant to fluid, inert, and not produce substances or alter the essential characteristics of the product, as the seals used in the hydraulic sector, where resistance to extrusion and oils is more important.
There is a specific size (4.47 x 1.78) that due to its consumption in different sectors (food, pharmaceutical, medicine, biotechnology, chemical, petrochemical, gas, aeronautics, electronics…), we have managed to create a huge stock of different materials and approvals.

Basic information on the materials used
NBR Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is the most widely used material in O-rings due to its excellent mechanical properties, resistance to abrasion, low permeability to gases and high resistance to mineral oils and greases. [ NBR O-Rings]
EPDM Ethylene Propylene Diene Rubber or EPDM is an elastomer thermopolymer that provides good resistance to abrasion and wear for O-rings. [ EPDM O-Rings]
VMQ The term silicone includes a large group of materials of which VMQ (vinyl-methyl-silicone) is one. Silicone elastomers have may useful properties, the most noteworthy of which are good heat resistance and low-temperature flexibility. There are also highly resistant to ozone and the passage of time, in addition to having good insulating and physiologically neutral properties. [ VMQ O-Rings]
FPM-Viton® O-Rings FPM is a fluoroelastomer obtained from the derivation of synthetic rubber and elastomer fluoropolymer. O-rings manufactured from this material provide greater elasticity and resistance than other types of rubber, in addition to possessing high resistance to highly aggressive fluids, good resistance to deformation, excellent sealing force retention and the original hardness of the design. [ FPM-Viton® O-Rings]
FFKM Evolast® Perfluoroelastomer-made (FFKM Evolast®) O-rings are designed to combine the needs of chemical and thermal resistance provided by the PTFE and the sealing properties typical of elastomers. One of the advantages of seals made with FFKM is the wide range of temperatures they are capable of withstanding. [ FFKM Evolast® O-Rings]
What 2018 has brought us
Sharing the year’s summary with you is becoming a great habit. We love to tell of the most important milestones from the last 12 months, share the great moments and all those actions that have a positive effect on you, the customers.
Quality as a synonym of trust
This year, we have continued working hard to certify the materials of our seals by independent entities and laboratories. Achieving the international approvals proving that the compounds of our seals comply with all health, portability and safety standards required by the international markets is vital.
The customer, the centre of our on-line activity
The website is one of our best tools to communicate with you. All up-to-date information about O-Rings, product catalogues, technical documentation, tables of standard measurements, approvals… In short, all information required to make a purchasing decision is on www.jiorings.com.
With just one click, on our on-line store you will find one of the largest stocks of seals. Save time and money by purchasing on-line from among over 32 million seals, available in a real-time updated stock, it is our way of making it easy for you.
Likewise, due to the high volume of individual queries, this year, we have decided to open our store to all demands from people who need O-ring seals for their repairs, hobbies, crafts… We can only add that we are very happy with the welcome it is receiving.
Committed to the environment
We are aware that natural resources are limited, whereas, unfortunately, our capacity to accumulate waste is increasing. This is why recycling has become one of our priorities. This year, we have launched comprehensive recycling, through which we manage all waste generated (cardboard, paper, plastic…) in accordance with the DIN 66399 standard and with a guaranteed Security Level 3.
Adapted to the new legal frameworks
The new European personal data protection regulation, also known as GDPR, entered into force on 25 May. As a company, we have adapted to the new obligations to establish a more protective framework over your rights, adopting a conscious and proactive attitude when processing this data.
Expanding our stock
When we say that we have one of the largest stocks of O-ring seals in mainland Spain, it is not a “bilbaínada”. With over 30 million O-ring seals, it would be difficult for us to not be able to offer what you are looking for. This year, we have also expanded the stock of O-Rings in FPM75 (Viton®) Black and O-Rings EPDM70 Peroxide Black for drinking water. The latter, a highly successful compound due to its approvals, makes it the ideal choice for sectors as demanding as those in medicine, food, chemicals, oils and for coming into contact with drinking water. Another highlight is the important investment we have made in original material of cord-ring spools (Perbunan®, Viton®, Xiametre®, Keltan®, Neoprene®).
We wave goodbye to this year, proud of everything we will be able to offer you in 2019: over 30,000,000 o-rings, 1,000,000 quad-rings, 225,000 back-up rings (BUR), 200,000 V-rings (now also VL type), 70,000 Metal-Buna, 40,000 seals, 40,000 clamps, 25,000 scrapers, 6,000 Gamma seals (or axial seals), 1,650 spools of O-ring cord… Take a look at our stock and prices, and place your orders.
Our brilliant side
We are a company committed to CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), the environment and the well-being of our employees. We continue to collaborate with “Born to Learn”, an NGO that works to offer a quality education to children in Moshi, Tanzania.
This year, we have taken great steps together with Amaya Álvarez in helping to disseminate and normalise Tourette’s Syndrome. We have made an important donation to the Blue Project, whose mission is to obtain an assistance dog to help their children with Tourette’s Syndrome. We have also donated 100 copies of her book “Un viaje diferente a los demás” to be distributed among educational centres in the Basque Country. With this donation, we want to help Amaya to disseminate Tourette’s Syndrome, another step towards normalising this illness.
During these 12 months, we have carried out different loyalty actions for both those at home and for customers. The centre of all our actions and attention is you, but without the daily work of all JIOrings employees, we would not be the fastest way of finding a seal.
From race to race
This year, the runners are those who have set the pace. Although the tide of the JIOrings Cycling Team keeps on pedalling, the ladies and gents of the JIOrings Running Team are setting the podium very high. Their participation in the Bizkaia Kopa Trail has been memorable, achieving 6th place in the teams’ Short Trail and 2nd place in the Long Trail. A special mention must go to Bego Uriarte, who has led this popular league of mountain sports from beginning to end.
Our best wishes for 2019
We say goodbye, as is to be expected, wishing the best for the coming year. In 2019, JIOrings celebrates 15 years being the quickest way of finding a seal, and we will be delighted to celebrate this with you. It will be a very special year.
Treatments that improve the performance of O-Rings
Sometimes standard elastomer O-Rings need to be treated with specialised surface treatments. By doing this, the equipment’s performance, assembly and installation is improved.
At JIOrings we can treat the O-Rings surface with specialised processes such as cleaning, chemical immersion or coating, with the aim of reducing friction and adhesion, to achieve a permanent lubricating effect or to facilitate the installation of the gaskets.
These treatments are usually done for large quantities or batches anyway, in case you need this type of treatment, we recommend that you contact us so we can analyse your needs and offer you the appropriate solution. These are the different treatments or surface coatings that we offer:
• Coloured PTFE
• Micro Talc
*Download of the technical specifications for each treatment, is subject to the purchase of gaskets treated to any of the aforementioned coatings.
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene coating), also known as TEFLON® (trademark of Chemours), is a coating based on fluoropolymers that provides high anti-adhesion to gaskets.
PTFE is a material suitable for contact with food (FDA), so it has many industrial applications such as the food, beverage, chemical and textile sectors etc… The process for coating gaskets with Teflon® PTFE consists of four different parts:
• Degreasing – Consists of eliminating any organic or inorganic residue that the pieces may have. For this, degreaser is applied to the gaskets.
• Sandblasting – Or preparing the surface to be coated to guarantee maximum adhesion of the Teflon® by blasting with aluminium oxide.
• Application – This is done with liquid spray guns, electrostatically, HVLP or with powder guns. This process may consist of several layers of product, depending on the purpose of the coating.
• Curing – For Teflon® to maintain its properties, the coating must be polymerised. Which means heating the gaskets to 360°C and maintaining this for 10 minutes.
The silicone or siliconised coating provides the gaskets with greater anti-adhesion, waterproofing and mechanical resistance. In addition, silicone gaskets also have better sealing and thermal insulation. A silicone gasket has the following advantages:
• Better thermal resistance.
• Good inflammability properties.
• Excellent impermeability (even in hostile conditions: outdoors, water, steam, smoke and combustible gases).
• Good flexibility.
• Can be cleaned easily.
• Increased durability.
Molykote is Dow Corning’s commercial name for their specialised lubricants. This lubricant was developed to solve industrial lubrication problems, and in turn to reduce friction and wear.
By treating the O-Rings with Molykote, which incorporates molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) into the lubricant, it is possible to create a final product capable of withstanding high loads, high and low working temperatures, dirt and dust, aggressive chemical environments and extreme speeds.
The MoS2 is incorporated into the elastomer in the form of a dry lubricating film dispersed over the sealing surface. This produces a mechanical interlacing, which in the long term, reduces the friction and wear caused by dynamic stresses. The main advantages of this type of treatment are:
• Improved separation in automatic assembly.
• Reduced friction and dynamic tension.
• Pollution containment.
• Protection against corrosion.
• Dispelled heat.
• Power transmission.
• This process is suitable for all types of elastomers.
When this static lubricant is applied to O-Rings, it allows for their use in advanced applications that require high electrical conduction, heat transfer, vacuum sealing and/or stability of a join.
It is often necessary to improve the coefficient of the O-Rings friction, since they have rough and adherent surfaces. In these cases, surface treatments such as talc can be applied. Thanks to this method, a reduction in friction can be achieved, both to facilitate assembly and to prolong service life.
Talc treatment, consists of applying it to the gaskets in a drum as a coating of disseminated dust. In this case, no interlacing occurs with the surface of the elastomer.
The talcum powder particles create an impermeable barrier that reduces the penetration of air and liquids into the gaskets. The more laminar the talc, the greater the barrier effect it will have. These are the main advantages of a talc-based treatment:
• Disseminated powder coating.
• It prevents the components from sticking once packaged.
• It is not suitable for dynamic applications.
• This process is suitable for all types of elastomers.
They keep dirt, dust, water and other particles out, whilst retaining lubricant in the rotary shaft components
The rotary shaft seals, belonging to the rotating gasket family, are also known as oil seals. Their main function is to close spaces between stationary and mobile components in mechanical equipment. They are used to prevent the escape of lubricant and prevent contaminants/harmful external particles from entering the machinery. Gaskets are common in almost all types of machines and vehicles where there are bushings, sleeves, bearings etc.
At JIOrings you will find more than 40,000 rotary shaft seals in stock: simple lip seals (whose function is to prevent leaks and contamination by external elements), double lip (which also prevent the loss of lubricants and grease due to mechanical displacement), mirror seals, HP seals for high pressure etc.
The correct choice of the rotary shaft seal depends on the application and the conditions (the medium, temperature, circumferential speed of the shaft and pressure) in which it will be used. As in almost all cases, the assembly of the retainer is of vital importance for its correct operation. To ensure safe placement of the retainer in the housing, and to prevent damage to the seal, JIOrings recommend using appropriate mounting devices.
We have a wide range of rotary shaft seals made of NBR, FPM and PTFE in our warehouses, as well as the standard steel (INOX 304 or INOX 316) spring and reinforcement ring. When selecting the retainer elastomer, it is helpful to remember:
• High wear resistance
• Suitable for use with mineral oils and greases
• Good aging and ozone resistance
• Low gas permeability
• Suitable for use with mineral oils and greases, as well as chemically aggressive agents (acids, alkaline solutions, etc.)
• Suitable for high temperature applications and high circumferential speeds
• Suitable for use with synthetic oils and greases
• High ozone, weather and age resistance
• Very low coefficient of friction
• Wide chemical resistance
• Suitable for defective lubrication and dry operation
• Suitable for a wide range of thermal applications
And to understand the nomenclature of the seals, you just have to know that the initial letter (B, C, D) indicates the type of retainer:
• C = Standard rotary shaft seal
• B = Metal rotary shaft seal
• D = Shielded rotary shaft seal
And the final letter (B, C) indicates whether it is single-lip or double-lip:
• B = Single lip
• C = Double lip
Remember that apart from the JIOrings nomenclature, the seals have their own equivalent references. Do not forget to consult them, before placing your order:
• CB seals = A / BA / G / SL / SC / WA / DG
• CB seals without spring = VC / WAO / INA / BAOF
• CC seals = AS / BASL / GP / DL / TC / WAS / DGS
• BB seals = B / B1 / WB / SB / DF
• BC seals = BS / B1SL / WBS / TB / DFS
• DB seals = C / B2 / T2SL / SA / DFK / SA2
• DC seals = CS / B2SL / T2DL / TA / DFSK / TA2
• PC seals = BABSL / WASY / AS-P
• HP seals = B2PT

Pamper your wine barrels with our silicone plugs
The function of silicone plugs for barrels is as “simple” as sealing the barrel so that the process of wine making runs its course, without intervening in the process itself. Nortap® plugs, made of 100% food grade silicone, are the best option to achieve the perfect closure or fit with the mouth of any barrel. And they are also more economical because they are easily reusable.
The barrel offers a wide variety of possibilities (type of oak, origin of the oak, level of toasting of the wood etc…) that will affect the final result of the wine. Just as the barrel brings specific qualities (oxygen, softness, complexity, aromas…) to the wine, the silicone plugs should NOT contribute anything at all.
In spite of its simplicity, closures for barrels have been one of the products that have “forced” us to adopt extra measures in terms of food safety.
One of those recent measures that we have taken to guarantee the safety of our plugs, has been to register JIOrings with the RGSEAA (General Sanitary Registry of Food and Food Companies). Added to that, we are also registered with the BfR (German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
These international certifications demonstrate that, during the wine making, and in the months that they are in the barrels, the silicone plugs (VMQ 40 SH A) do NOT contribute odor, flavour, or transmit any substances to the wines.
For JIOrings, the quality of the barrel plugs must be present throughout the entire production process, from manufacturing to final delivery to customers. And it is precisely the confidence that important cooperage and wineries continue to place in us, which drives us to continue improving.

X-Rings or Quad-Rings, the seals with the most support
The O-Ring, the simplest, most versatile and economical option on the market, is a circular seal that can be used in almost any application in any industry that requires a water-tightness guarantee. The X-Ring (also known as a Trefoil or Quadruple Gasket/Seal), with its four points of support exceeds the O-Ring in many technical areas. In fact, it has four main sealing advantages over an O-Ring:
1. On an O-Ring, the hidden parting lines are always at the largest outside diameter, with this being a sealing surface. In a quad-ring, that hidden parting line (also known as flash line) is inside the two outer lobes; therefore, it does not affect the sealing lips.
2. It is more stable in dynamic applications. It is also more resistant to rolling because it has a wider base and better occupies the corners of the application groove. Extrusion is common in dynamic applications that are assembled with O-Rings, where the ring can be extruded or over-recessed. This does not happen with X-Rings.
3. They have a large lubrication retention. The grooves in the internal and external diameter of the ring retain the lubricant, which reduces friction and prolongs the life of the seal.
4. Quad-Rings require less compressive force to seal, since their four-point support design provides a larger sealing surface than an O-Ring.
These multiple seal points require less compression to provide a more effective seal than that required for an O-Ring in the same application. In addition, we must not forget that the less friction and wear, the longer the service life.
X-Rings can be used for any application that an O-Ring can, since they follow the same standard sizing and they are also available in a wide variety of materials (NBR, FPM, EPDM…).
